Operations leaders manage teams of individuals involved directly in client management, including paralegals, legal assistants, IP administrators and local office administrators.
Chris MacMillan
Chris is a senior operations leader, analyst and manager, with more than two decades of experience in docketing and office management. He possesses a deep understanding of the intellectual property industry and has been a member of Smart & Biggar’s Patent Operations Group since its inception in 2002. Chris now leads all aspects of compliance and risk assessment at the firm, evaluating and tracking potential problems to improve our internal and client services.
In addition to managing risk to ensure the reputation, security and sustainability of Smart & Biggar, Chris is also responsible for tracking client service issues, conflicts and other system and operational issues. He ensures that all firm leadership and team members are in compliance with internal and external regulations, policies and procedures, and provides support and education to staff to build risk awareness, and prevent issues before they arise.
Chris is known by colleagues for his persistence and dedication in identifying operational problem areas. He is motivated by a keen desire to improve client services through collaboration, and continually strives for innovative, long-term solutions.
