Tamara has over a decade of experience helping brand owners and creators protect, monetize, and grow their brands in Canada and internationally. She provides strategic advice at all stages of a trademark’s life – from clearance; through filing strategies and prosecution; to licensing and enforcement.

Tamara regularly represents clients before the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board, in opposition and non-use cancellation (section 45) proceedings. Her enforcement practice includes assisting clients with anti-counterfeiting matters, including working with Canadian Border Services to record client rights, and identify and stop suspect counterfeit imports. Tamara’s litigation practice spans the Federal and provincial courts and includes assisting with actions and applications for passing off, infringement, depreciation of goodwill, and trademark expungement, as well as appeals.

With a practice that covers both trademark and copyright, Tamara helps established and emerging brand owners and creators craft multi-faceted IP strategies to meet their present needs and facilitate future growth. Tamara works closely with Canadian and international brands and creators across numerous industries, including fashion, entertainment, health and beauty, and pharmaceuticals.

Tamara regularly publishes insights on emerging IP issues and developments, including the Metaverse and NFTs. Her articles have appeared in legal and industry publications, including the Toronto Law Journal, WTR Daily, and Internet & E-commerce Law in Canada. She is a contributor to chapters in the Canadian Trademark Law Benchbook on Trademark Prosecution and Opposition, and has written training modules for trademark professionals provided through the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

An active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), Tamara has served on numerous committees, including as chair. She currently sits on the education (IPIC) and anti-counterfeiting (IPIC and INTA) committees.

Tamara was named in “Best Lawyers in Canada: One to Watch” in 2022 and 2023, and has been featured in the INTA Bulletin’s “Young Practitioner’s Spotlight” (Vol 76 Issue 35). In Fall 2022, Tamara was awarded the Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award by IPIC for her volunteer work. She was also awarded the IPIC Education Foundation Prize for achieving the highest grade on the 2015 Canadian Trademark Agent Exam.
