Paul is responsible for all aspects of client and internal relations. Since helping to start Smart & Biggar’s Calgary office in 2014, he has drawn from his two decades of experience in IP to resolve internal client matters and is able to direct clients to the appropriate professional within the firm for external matters.
Paul began his career in IP working in internal record creation before moving to Canadian and foreign docketing, then Canadian maintenance fees and, finally, foreign maintenance fees. He joined Smart & Biggar’s Montreal office as a patent paralegal/paraprofessional in 2005 where he ensured accurate filings with the Canadian Patent Office, the PCT Receiving Office, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also worked closely with administrative assistants, docketing staff and mailroom staff to ensure proper handling of client files.
Throughout his extensive career, Paul has become greatly skilled in all types of patent filings during the full course of patent prosecution. He is known for his attention to detail, his accuracy, and his skill in direct electronic filings. He is adept at resolving issues to ensure that clients’ IP rights are fully protected and that they are receiving quality service from the firm.
Paul is also a member of the Calgary Association of Legal Administrators (CALA) where he held a seat on the Board of Directors in 2018.
