Emily combines a strong foundation in scientific research with a deep understanding of intellectual property law. Her practice is directed towards the prosecution of Canadian and foreign patent and industrial design applications.
Her expertise spans manufacturing and industrial goods, biotechnology, life sciences, chemistry, consumer goods, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Her multidisciplinary approach allows her to provide detailed and adaptable legal services that are tailored to clients’ needs. She recognizes the importance of staying up-to-date with industry developments, and believes that clear and proactive communication with clients is crucial.
An Osgoode Hall Law School graduate, Emily served as President of the Intellectual Property Society, and was a regional finalist in the USPTO’s National Patent Drafting Competition. She provided legal information and commercialization support to inventors and start-ups through the IP Innovation Clinic and is a frequent contributor to the IPilogue blog. Her earlier experience includes roles as a Science Literacy Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant in McMaster’s Auditory Development Lab, as well as involvement in research projects on renewable energy, drug discovery, cancer research, neuroscience, climate change and earth science.
