In fond memory of Nicholas Fyfe, Q.C.
The partners of Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh regretfully announce the passing of our friend and former senior partner, Nicholas Fyfe, Q.C., on April 14, 2012.
A brilliant and highly respected IP lawyer and litigator, Nick was passionate about the law. He was counsel in more than 130 reported decisions, many of which were important, precedent-setting cases. Nick was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1984 and was a past President of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and a director of MARQUES. Nick was widely recognized as one of the world's leading trademark law experts.
Nick was the consummate gentleman. He was universally recognized for the highest standards of civility and professionalism. He was revered for his energy, creativity, mentorship, integrity and, most importantly, his loyalty and friendship. Nick was deeply admired and respected by colleagues, clients and adversaries.
Nick led a full and very well-rounded life. When he retired as senior partner in 2000, Nick was able to enthusiastically pursue his considerable interests. Yet, he was always ready to provide his sage advice to so many of us.
A rare man, Nick will be greatly missed.
