With first-hand experience leading a biotech start-up, a biochemistry doctorate and twenty years of patent procurement experience, Thuy adeptly blends her legal and scientific knowledge to help clients advance their business goals. When drafting and prosecuting biotechnology and pharmaceutical patents, Thuy looks beyond protecting her client’s innovations to consider their impact on market position and corporate strategy.

Unrivalled expertise in biotechnology and pharmaceutical patenting

Thuy’s experience extends to all aspects of patent procurement in Canada, including preparing patentability infringement and validity opinions, developing and managing patent portfolios, conducting freedom-to-operate and due diligence evaluations, strategic planning, and general client counselling on patent matters. She’s also highly knowledgeable about the patent-related regulatory requirements applied to biopharmaceuticals being marketed in Canada.

Broad technical knowledge and client base

Thuy bolsters her patent expertise with her strong technical understanding which lies in areas of biochemistry including carbohydrates, histocytochemistry, immunochemistry, cell biology especially in intracellular trafficking and chaperone activity, immunogenetics, molecular biology, agricultural biotechnology, stem cells and personalized medicine.

Thuy counsels clients ranging from small biotechnology start-ups and universities to major biochemical, biopharmaceutical and bioagricultural companies. Earlier in her career, Thuy was a key leader in a biotechnology spin-off company in Canada.
